Effets de réussite et d'échec à une tâche préalable au cours du vieillissement cognitif

In a series of studies, we examine how cognitive performance in a given task (e.g., arithmetic problem solving) is influenced by whether participants successfully accomplished an immediately preceding tasks (or failed at it). We find that older adults, but not young adults, obtain much better performance following prior-task success, and young adults (but not older adults) obtain poorer performance following prior-task failure..

In a series of experiments, we examine sources of ABST (decreased performance in older adults when tested under stereotype threat). In particular, our findings show that stereotype threat changes cognitive processes (or strategies) they use to accomplish cognitive tasks, as older adults use more frequently poorer cognitive strategy when tested under threat..
